Understanding Your Diamond Choice

Progressively larger round diamonds labeled with their carat weights: 0.50 ct., 0.75 ct., 1.00 ct., 2.00 ct., and 5.00 ct.

Carat

A chart displaying different diamond color grades from D to Z, with D being colorless and Z being very light, arranged in a grid with rows labeled with color descriptions.

Carat is the weight of the diamond, not its size. Larger carat weights are rarer, so their value tends to rise. But beauty isn't just about size. Cut and proportions often matter more in how impressive a diamond looks.

Color

Chart comparing different diamond clarity grades, including Flawless, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, with diagrams illustrating internal inclusions for each grade.

Diamond color is graded from D, which is colorless, down the alphabet as faint warmth appears. Many people prefer near-colorless diamonds, which still look bright once set, but can offer better value.

Clarity

Clarity refers to tiny natural inclusions formed deep underground. Most are invisible without magnification, and a thoughtfully chosen clarity grade can look completely clean to the naked eye.
